I was researching The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and although I’m not religious I was very inspired by the obvious parallels between their biblical descriptions and modern social problems. For example, Famine doesn’t reduce the quantity of food available, he merely increases the price of the food poor people eat, while preserving the price of rich people’s food, mirroring today’s income inequality.
I was also surprised by how depictions of the horsemen had changed over the years, for example, the modern horseman Pestilence was originally Conquest, the description of which matches the negative aspects of social media influencers.
